Dutch Oven Cooking

A lot of people think that cooking in a dutch oven must be hard.  It really isn’t!  Anything you can cook in your oven at home can be prepared in a dutch oven.  The main thing is to start with a seasoned dutch oven.  Most of the dutch ovens you will see for sale will be pre-seasoned, which will save you time.  Also, you can get parchment paper liners that will make cleanup a breeze.

Our Pack owns 4 dutch ovens.  Can you guess how many of them were used on the Spring Family Campout?  One!

At the next Parent-Son Camporee, we will have another Dessert contest.  If you were not satisfied with the amount of dessert you had at SFC, why don’t you enter?  Anyone can sign out one of the Pack’s dutch ovens.  Just let me or Terry Snider know, and we can make arrangements to meet you at the church to get one.

If you are interested in purchasing one for yourself, I would suggest a 12″ cast iron dutch oven with legs.  If the one you purchase doesn’t include it, you will also need a handle to remove the lid when it’s hot.  And gloves.
