Resident Camp Details

Dear All,
I hope you are all well. I know you are looking forward to Resident Camp. This was one of my son’s favorite things about Cub Scouts, we went every year.
We received our campsite assignment for our trip! We are in Kit Carson. I am attaching the map of Raven Knob so you can find the campsite. The campsite has Adirondack cabins. They do not have doors. Please bring a shower curtain to put up for a “door”. When I have been in the past, there are already nails up in the cabin door ways to hold the shower curtains. You can see the cabins and site shelter in the Kit Carson pictured below.

For our campsite, you do not need tents. There will be 6 mattresses in each of the 6 cabins. Resident Camp is hot. So I recommend a set of sheets and a thin blanket as opposed to a sleeping bag.
Right now Weather.com is showing the following forecast for Mt Airy, NC.

Please keep checking as the weather changes super fast this time of year.

Check in (this can be confusing, please read) – Please be at the campsite by 1:00 pm on Wednesday, June 15th, so we can get checked in together, have the pack picture taken and then have time to set up the campsite before dinner at 6:00. There will be signs to go to other locations to check in, that is for the pack leader, you need to be at our campsite and wait for instructions from Mack Moore. The address at Raven Knob is 266 Raven Knob Rd, Mount Airy, NC 27030 and the camp phone number is (336) 352-4307.  It is best to arrive early, there will be a lot of other packs trying to get into Raven Knob at 1:00 pm.

Forms – Mack Moore will have all the forms. He will give the parents their and their scouts’  medical forms, scouts’ outdoor forms and YTP paperwork. You must show your paperwork at pack check in, please take it with you. You will go over your and your scout’s medical forms with the health staff at pack check in.

Swim Check Forms – If you did a swim check with me, then Mack will have that as well. If you didn’t do one before, you can do one at Raven Knob.

Meals: All meals are eaten at the dining hall. I turned in a form for all of our food allergies. We will also have s’mores one night at our campsite as a pack.

Campfires: Each year there is an opening and a closing campfire (both require class A uniforms) for Resident Camp. During the closing campfire, the scouts are required to wear class A uniforms but they may also add a funny piece to their uniform to go with the camp theme. One year, we had flowered lays to go with the Sand, Sun and Surf theme. This year the theme is Searching for Bigfoot. I will let you decide what fun “searching for bigfoot” attire to wear to the last camp fire for you and your scout. (toy binoculars, safari hat, you decide)

Dining Hall Tables: Our Pack will be assigned tables in the dining hall for the duration of our stay at Resident Camp. It is every scout in our group’s responsibility to clean up the tables after each meal. This includes clearing all the dishes and trash, taking the trash to the dumpster, wiping down the tables and sweeping the floor under the table. It is expected that each scout will perform a particular role each meal.
Waiter Duty: Every Scout gets the chance to be a “waiter” at camp. That means that you and your scout(s) will go to the Dining Hall 15 minutes early when it is your turn and set up our pack tables. You will be responsible for getting the silverware, cups, drinks and meal specific extras for our tables. If you are late or don’t remember to go, our pack tables will not be ready when the pack comes to eat. Most Scouts like to be waiters because they get to be first in line to get their food!
Online Pictures Posted on the Raven Knob website during Camp – the Raven Knob staff will take pictures during Resident Camp and post them on the RK site. RK Website link so family can look on the site to see pictures while the scouts are at camp.

Please contact Hope Pirtle 615-516-8922 or Mack Moore at 252-885-9114, if you arrival updates.

I hope everyone has an awesome time!
