GoScouter email

Everyone should have received an email last night from GoScouter. This is the new online system we are using to track camp card credits.

The way the camp cards work is for each $5 card your son sells, they receive $2.50 in a scout account. Those funds can be used for payment for any Pack activity that we charge for (camp, rechartering, etc). It is the parents responsibility to request that the payment be deducted from the scout account.

As this is a new system to us, it will take awhile for us to figure out how to fully utilize it. So please bear with us!

Rechartering deadline

The deadline to recharter is next Tuesday, March 11th. We will have someone at a table at Blue & Gold, or you can bring payment to the leader meeting on the 11th. Rechartering is $60 and pays BSA and Pack dues through next March.

I have no choice but to drop anyone who hasn’t paid by 8pm on 3/11. After that you’ll have to fill out a new application.

This Week

This Tuesday will be a Den Meeting night. Unless your Den Leader has said otherwise, everyone will be meeting in their regular rooms tomorrow evening.

Tomorrow evening at 6pm is the first session of God and Me.

Mike Nebinger will be sitting at the table downstairs collecting for the following:
1. Rechartering for all scouts except Webelos IIs. Cost is $60. This covers the scouting year Apr ’14 – Mar ’15.
2. Blue & Gold Banquet. $10/family. Bring the sign up form that Kim emailed out.

Also the Pinewood Derby official scale will be set up.

Scout Sunday and Scouting for Food collection is this Sunday. We’ll be handing out door tags for Scouting for Food tomorrow evening.

Scout Sunday is a very important event for the Pack. We expect every scout to attend the 11:00 Traditional service in full Class A uniform (Shirt, neckerchief, slide, and belt). The scouts will march in as a group and sit together. This is the one time of the year that we show our gratitude to our sponsoring organization. If you have obligations at your church, you may drop off your scout in front of the church as early as 10:30, and pick him up by 12:20.

No Meeting Tonight

In keeping with the Pack’s “No School – No Scouts” policy, we will not be having the Pack Meeting tonight. WSFCS has a 2hr early dismissal today due to the snow forecast for this afternoon.

Any precipitation will freeze on the roads and make driving too dangerous this evening.

The Pack leadership will make a decision this week about next weeks meeting, whether it’s a Den meeting or Pack meeting.

Updated information for Parent Son

The opening ceremony on Saturday at 9am will be at the parade ground in front of the dining hall, not at the OA arena as I insinuated by calling it the opening campfire.

There will be limited pre-camp activities that you can participate in on Saturday morning. From what I’m reading, it doesn’t look there will be any activities on Friday evening. The Trading Post will be open Friday evening.

Campsite assignments

I have our campsite assignments. In order for the boys to near their friends, please respect the following assignments:

Webelos 1s & 2s: Piney Ridge C
Bears: Piney Ridge B
Wolves: Piney Ridge A
Tigers: Knoll

Anyone needing AC power for CPAP will also be at Knoll. Bring a 100′ extension cord.

If you have scouts of different ranks, it’s your choice which site you use.

If your assigned site is full when you arrive, you will have to set up at one of our other sites (Piney Ridge or Knoll).

I will be at Piney Ridge C ( or whichever is the one to the back right) for check-in during the following times:
Friday 6pm – 8pm
Saturday 8am – 10am, after lunch until 2pm.

You need to check in with me during those times. I will have your t-shirts, attendee wrist bands, etc. Don’t check in at Administration or the dining hall. They only do check-in for the Pack representatives.

I will need a printed, signed health form for all attendees (including parents!) and a copy of your insurance card. I will not be collecting the shooting sports permission slips at that time. This is the first year that they’ve required that for BB’s and archery so I need to find out how they are handling those forms.

If you need a packing list, we have one on our website. Hover over Pack Events and click on Parent Son Camporee for that list.

Remember that the opening campfire is at 9am Saturday morning.

Health Forms

Our Pack is going to start a Health Form notebook again. Since Health Forms are good for one year, this is a good time to collect the forms. Over the next few meetings, I will be collecting the forms.  The form is available here: Health Forms. Please consider turning in forms for the entire family.

Here’s how we will handle the forms and who will be able to see them:

  • All forms will be put in a binder, separated by family.  Each families forms will go in a plastic insert.
  • Forms will only be pulled out in the event of an emergency.
  • The notebook will be kept up by one of our Pack Committee members.
  • Prior to an event, that committee member will hand the notebook over to the designated leader for that event.  After the event is over, that leader will return the notebook to the designated committee member.
  • We will keep this notebook up until the end of May.  At the May Rank Advancement Ceremony, we will return any forms as requested.  The remaining forms will be shredded.
  • Separate health forms will be needed for the following activities:  SciWorks (they have their own health form), Resident Camp, and District Day Camp.

If you have any questions, please email me (michael.nebinger@gmail.com) and I will answer them the best that I can.

Pack Bike Ride this Saturday

This Saturday we have our annual Pack Bike Ride. We will meet at the Muddy Creek Greenway behind Meadowlark Middle/Elementary Schools at 10:00. Helmets are required. This is a family event, so siblings are invited. Please send Chad Nolan an email if you will be attending so that no one is left behind. His email address is cdnolan@wakehealth.edu.

Thanks. Let us know if you have any questions.

2013 Parent Son Camporee

Thank you to everyone who registered.  Our Pack will have 51 scouts attending the Camporee, along with 51 adults.

As soon as I get our campsite assignment, I will post it here.

In the meantime, here’s some more information for you:
1. Every attendee (scouts and parents) will need to have a health form filled out, Parts A & B.  A fillable PDF can be found here.Health Forms.
2. Here is a schedule of activities.Parent Son Schedule.
3. Something new this year. Any scouts wishing to do shooting sports (for us that means BB guns & Archery), you will need to print out this release and sign it. Bring it with you to camp. Shooting Sport Permission.

If you couldn’t get to the meeting last night and still want to sign up, please email me michael.nebinger@gmail.com for instructions.
