Pack 934 Updates 2/6/17

Dear Friends,
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  The Wake Forest basketball game was a lot of fun! The Deacs won!!  (That always makes it more fun.)  Scout Sunday was a success as well.  For those scouts that attended Sunday, please let them know how impressed we all are with their behavior,  manners, and respectfulness.  We must have the most well behaved pack in the state!
There are a few changes to our den meeting rooms, so please pay careful attention this week.
Tigers – 117 (Same as usual)
Wolves – 121 Cub Scout Room (same as usual)
Bears – Fellowship Hall (upstairs, next to the kitchen)
Webelos I – 122 (says Girl Scout Room, but we won’t tell the boys)
Webelos II – 120 Boy Scout Room (same as usual)
Webelos II Parents – Shannon and Bill will be in the Youth Commons to assist with paperwork for bridging and to collect money.  They can ONLY ACCEPT CASH OR CHECKS.
For those who are new to Scouting, the Pinewood Derby will not last from 8-3.   You will be assigned times by den to race.  The top 3 racers in each den will receive a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place pin.  All the cars that placed are then invited to come back later in the day to race against each other.  Of course, everyone is invited to come watch any and all of the races.  There will be concessions as well.  The very last race of the day, is for friends and family.  Anyone who would like to build a car and race it is invited to do so in the last race of the day.  The times for each will be detailed soon.
If your family is going skiing next Monday, February 13th, you will be receiving an email a link to register each individual in the family.  Please look for that email around mid-week.

One forgotten Item regarding Scout Sunday and Scouting for Food

Dear Friends,
My apologies for not mentioning this in the last email.  Just so there is no confusion, you should know that the Boy Scout Troop (NOT the Cub Scouts) will be collecting food from the Mt. Tabor UMC congregation tomorrow at Scout Sunday.  We are collecting food separately and will be donating directly to The Bread of Life Food Pantry at 407 Petree Rd.  Our pick-up date will still be next Saturday.  We will meet at Mt. Tabor at noon.  If you can’t be there at noon please get with me and we will make other arrangements.  I just didn’t want anyone to be confused tomorrow, when they see collections.
Thanks again,
Hope

Scout Sunday and a Few Reminders 2/4/17

Dear Friends,

I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far! I needed to send out a few details and reminders for this weekends events.

If you received bags and flyers for Scouting For Food please remember to pass those out this weekend. If your den did not get them last Tuesday, then you should receive them this Tuesday. Collection is next Saturday.

If you signed up for basketball tickets to this evenings game, they are at will call under your scouts name. Will call opens at 1:00 and the doors open at 1:30. This is a Class A uniform event. If you won tickets, you should already have received them along with emailed instructions directly from the WF coordinator.

Those who are attending Scout Sunday, we will meet in the Youth Commons (That is the big room downstairs in the middle, where the Bears usually have their den meetings) at 10:45 am. We will enter together behind the flags. We will be attending the traditional service this year. It begins at 11am. This is a Class A Uniform event.

I look forward to seeing you all this weekend,

Hope

Pack 934 Updates 1/31/17

Dear Friends,

I hope everyone is having a fantastic Tuesday!  I want to start by reminding the Webelos II den that they will NOT have a den meeting tonight, as they attended the boy scout meeting last night instead.  I also need to remind everyone that we do have a couple of sign-up deadlines tonight as well.  If you will not be present  at tonight’s meeting, but want to sign-up for any of the events, please text or email me, so I can ensure you are on the roster.

Also, If you are a Webelos II (or any den) and are participating in the God and Me Course, please remember we have our last class this evening at 6:00pm.   Thank you all so much for such great participation in this course.

The above mentioned deadlines are for the Wake Forest Basketball game that is this Saturday, February 4th and for Scout Sunday this Sunday, February 5th.  I know it seems fast but next Tuesday, February 7th will be the deadline to sign-up for the SciWorks Sleepover (they have to have the numbers a month in advance) and for our Pack Ski Trip.

You should receive flyers and bags tonight for our Scouting for Food event.  These flyers and bags can be distributed throughout your neighborhood, church, or wherever you prefer to distribute them.  The flyer is pretty self explanatory, stating you will pick the bags of non-perishable food items up from everyone the following Saturday, February 11th.  We will meet at Mt Tabor UMC at noon that Saturday to turn in our collected bags.  If you are unable to meet at noon, you may call me and I can assist in meeting you to get your collections.  This food will go to our local food pantry, The Bread of Life Food Pantry, to feed those in need.

Here is a brief message that was relayed to our Webelos II Den (and is now being relayed to all) from our CubMaster, Mr. Brad Wood:

“For those of you who were able to attend the Lock-In event Friday night, I think a good time was had by all.

I am still basking in the glow of the Pack Meeting last Tuesday night.  I was so incredibly impressed with all of the Scouts in our Pack.  Their behavior was absolutely impeccable, and the caliber and thoughtfulness of the questions they asked Mayor Joines just blew me away.  As I walked the Mayor to his car, he told me how deeply impressed he was by our Cub Scouts.   My heart was filled with pride and joy.   The future of our community is extremely bright with young men like our Cub Scouts to lead us when they grow into adulthood!”

Pack 934 Updates 1/17/17

Dear Friends,
I hope everyone enjoyed the three day weekend!  (At least the boys.)  In addition to the update sent out Friday, we have a few more items and events to tell you about.
⛪For those boys signed up for God & Me, please don’t forget to be there tonight.  Please arrive as close to 5:50 as possible.  We realize work schedules don’t always allow for early arrival.  We only ask you do the best you can.
Webelos II Parents, don’t forget you will be off site tonight.  If you need anything in the way of sign ups, you may call, text, or email me.  Have a great time learning about glass blowing!
🏀The Wake Forest Basketball Scout Night has been officially announced.  It will be Saturday, February 4th at 3:00pm.  This game is against Georgia Tech.  The tickets are $15.00 each.  You may purchase for friends and family.  Each scout will receive a Wake Forest Scout patch.  Please come to the sign-up table to order tickets.  The deadline to order will be Tuesday, January 31st.
🐞SciWorks is having their annual Scout Sleepover Friday, March 10th.  The cost will be $30.00 per scout and adult.  If you have two scouts it will be $60 for all three of you.  Siblings may join but must also pay $30.00.  (Even if they are not staying the night.)  The deadline for this event is Tuesday, February 7th.
🍞You will begin hearing about Scouting for Food.  This is a program that the council highly advocates.  You will be given grocery bags and flyers to hand out to your neighbors (you hand them out on Feb 4th).  The brochure asks them to place some non-perishable food items in the bag and place it on their front porch or driveway on Feb. 11th.  You will then collect the food items and bring them to a central location.  This food will go directly to a food pantry in our community to help combat hunger.  Please participate in this worthy cause.

Hello Parents of Pack 934,
⛄I hope everyone had a great time in the snow over the weekend!  It was beautiful and a great time to make memories!  I am relieved it is gone though.  We have several upcoming events to share with you.
🎥Our Pack Lock-In that was canceled last Friday, has been rescheduled and amended.  It will turn into a Pack Activity night.  We will have all of our activities (except staying the night) on Friday, January 27th.   The Scouts who sold enough popcorn to earn a pie throw, get those pie arms ready!  The movie of the night will still be Angry Birds.  We will still meet in our den rooms between 5:45 and 6:00 pm that night.
📣We are pleased to announce that Mayor Joines will be speaking to our pack at this months pack meeting, January 24th at 7:00pm.  Please be sure to join us for this exciting event!
📅The God and Me class that was canceled due to snow, has been rescheduled for January 31st.  If your child is attending these classes, please mark the new date on your calendar.
⛪February will bring lots of excitement as well!  Mt Tabor UMC will have Scout Sunday February 5th.  We would love for all scouts (even those who do not attend Mt Tabor UMC) to join us if possible.  This year we will flip with the Troop and we will attend the traditional service that is in the sanctuary.  We will meet at 10:45am and sit together.  The service begins at 11:00am.  Please sign-up and join this year’s Scout Sunday to say “thank you” to our biggest supporters!  The congregation loves to see the young lives that are being shaped through vital program.
🎿Also, Monday, February 13th, (was scheduled as a WSFCS teacher workday, but has since changed to a snow make-up day) we had previously scheduled a ski trip to Sugar Mountain.  This is the only date that we can get the great rate of $25.00 for skiing or $30.00 for snowboarding.  We are leaving it up to you, parents as to how you would like to handle this date.  We will leave the trip open, but need 15 people to secure the rates.  Children MUST be 8 years old to attend.  You will need to be there by 9:00am.  Please let me know if you would like to attend, so we can ensure we have enough people.
🏎Pinewood Derby is fast approaching.  If you have not received your PWD car kit and would like to participate, please visit the sign-up table at our den meeting next Tuesday, January 17th.  Lowes Home Improvement will have a PWD building lesson from 11-2 this Saturday, I have been told.
🕶The Old Hickory Council and The Day Camp Directors are looking for volunteers for this summers Day Camp that will be held at the Children’s home.  They have also added a 3 evening Twilight Camp this year for those who can not come during the day. Please see the attached brochure for more information.  The volunteer application is also attached.  If you volunteer every day of the camp, you get one free cub scout registration!  💰
