Pack 934 Updates 9/24/18

Hello Friends,


Happy Fall Y’all!!  Tomorrow evening we will have Den Meetings in the basement of Mt Tabor UMC beginning at 7 pm.  (Except Lion Scouts, your next meeting is Oct 2.) You may want to arrive a little early if your scout has popcorn and/or money to report.  They should bring their forms to the Den’s table in the Youth Commons (The larger room that all our Den rooms are around.) and get their hand stamped.  We will go to our Den Rooms, then congregate for the last 10 minutes in the Youth Commons for results and prizes.  If your scout sold one item they will receive a treat as they leave.  I will have a list of those scouts who sold online also, so they should come to the Youth Commons to get their hand stamped for the prize as well.
⛺
We will have our sign-up table as well.  Tomorrow is the deadline for the Parent/Cub Camporee that will take place October 12 -14.  Please be sure to get signed up for this fun event!

Our Pack trip to the Greensboro Science Museum and Sky Wild Ropes Course has been rescheduled to Saturday, October 27th.  For those who have sports, we will have 2 options of times on the Sky Wild Ropes Course.  Either 10:30 am or 2:30 pm.  Please swing by the sign-up table to either confirm your tickets by adding the time you will attend, or add/delete your name.

We always have Pack t-shirts for sale for $10.  These are x-temp shirts and are very comfortable.  If you would like one, please just let me know what size so I can get it out for you.  We do still have some clearance shirts as well (while supplies last) Cotton is $3.00.  Dri-fit is $5.00.

Greensboro Science Center and Skywild being rescheduled

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all having a safe Friday.  I’m sure you all have correctly assumed that this weekend’s Pack Trip to the Greensboro Science Center and Skywild Ropes Course is being rescheduled.  I will update you with the date as soon as possible.  That will also allow us time to open the sign ups once again.  We are thinking of reserving a morning and an afternoon slot for the ropes course, so that those who are busy with sports in the morning could still participate.  Please let me know what you think.
Stay safe,
Hope

Pack 934 Updates 9/3/18

Happy Labor Day everyone,

󾓦
We will have our Pack Open House tomorrow evening at 7pm.  We will have a sign-in sheet for all scouts and their friends, and they will earn tickets to enter a drawing for a prize.  Each scout will be given one ticket for wearing their uniform.  They will be given another ticket if they bring a friend.  They will write their names on the back of the ticket and drop them in a container.  The friend will also receive a ticket to go into a different container.  At the end of the night, three people from each container will win a prize.  (If your scout joined in the last month, their ticket will go into the “friends” container.  (We don’t necessarily expect them to have their uniforms yet.)
🎟
Everyone will report to the Family Life Center (big gym).  Mr. Mack Moore will welcome everyone and give a brief description of how the night will run before starting the games.  There will be free throw, freeze tag, four square, and some more great games led by our dens and their leaders.  The adults of new scouts and/or potential scouts can leave their boys playing games while they report to the Asplaugh Worship Center for an overview and a question and answer session.
🕡
Our sign-ups will be at the table.  We do have 2 deadlines tomorrow evening.  First is the USS Yorktown.  Second is the Greensboro Science Center and/or Sky Wild Ropes Course.  If you would like to attend either of these, please be sure you visit the sign up table.
🚫
We will NOT sell t-shirts tomorrow evening.  You may purchase them at any meeting normally.  Even if I don’t have them out, you may tell me what size you would like, and I will get it for you.  Tomorrow night will be too crazy to drag them all out.  Thanks for your understanding.
📝

Reminder – Cub Scout Pack 934 Den Meetings tonight 7pm and Updates 8/28/18

Dear Friends,

Just a friendly reminder, we will have den meetings tonight at 7pm in the basement of Mt Tabor UMC.  Please park in front of the church building and walk down the driveway to the far right when looking at the building.  The Scout Entrance is below the metal stairway.  We will have signs and try to have someone directing.  If you are new to scouting or to our Pack and have not gotten a Welcome Packet yet, please see Hope at the table in the hallway.
If you are in need of Pack Number patches, we have the “934” patch as one, so that you do not have to sew each number individually.  They are $4.00 each and will be at the sign-up table also.
We are now signing up for Parent/Cub Camping which will take place October 12-14th.  The cost is $15 per Cub Scout and $30 per adult.  Lions (Kindergarten) may come for Saturday only.  The cost per Lion Cub and one parent is $20.  Each will get a t-shirt and a patch for attending.  Lions and their adult partners will need to bring a picnic lunch.  Archery and sling shot will be open to all.  BB guns will be open to Tiger Scouts and older.  We arrive between 5 – 8 PM Friday the 12th and depart from Camp Raven Knob after breakfast Sunday.

Cub Scout Pack 934 Updates 08/24/18

Happy Friday Friends,

I hope everyone had a great summer.  My house can’t believe it’s over and another school and scout year is upon us.  We are all geared up and ready for lots of exciting adventures this year!

We’ll start with our Movie and Ice Cream Night tomorrow evening, Saturday, August 25th beginning at 6 PM.  We will be in the Fellowship Hall (Dining area) of Mt. Tabor UMC.  I will have Paw prints up to guide those who are new and any special guests we have from School Open Houses.  This is a bring a friend event.  Current scouts please wear your Class B t-shirts.  (Any scout shirt will do, if you have one.)  Parents will be completing or updating your scout’s paperwork, so please see me during the movie to ensure we have the most current information.
珞
If you know anyone who would like to join our pack, we are always welcoming new scouts!  You can refer them to BeAScout.org to fill out a youth application.  We will also have that website pulled up at our meetings for new scout applications.

We have new Pack T-shirts available for $10.00 with our newest den of Lions included.  They are moisture-wicking and very soft.  I will have them in the Welcome Center tomorrow and at the sign up table thereafter.  Our old cotton shirts are on clearance for $3.00 and our previous dry-fit shirts will be available (until supplies run out) for $5.00.

Movie and Ice Cream Night, August 25, 2018 6pm

Hello again everyone,

Most of you already have the date, but for those of you who have forgotten or have joined us, our Pack Movie Night will be Saturday, August 25th at 6 PM in the Mt Tabor UMC Fellowship Hall.  Please send me a little note if your family plans to attend and how many, so we will have an idea how much ice cream to purchase. (You may email or text) This is also an invite a friend event.
I am asking parents to please see me to update your scout’s forms during the movie.  We can make a copy of any new insurance cards if you will bring them as well.
We hope to see you there,
Hope

Resident Camp 2018 Details

Hello Friends,

I am excited to say, it’s Resident Camp time again!  We received our campsite assignment and we are in Kit Carson.  (For those who went last year, it’s the same campsite!)  For those who have not been before, the campsite has Adirondack cabins.  (They are cabins without doors.)  You will want to bring a tarp to cover the entry.  The nails are already in place.   No tents or air mattresses needed (unless your child will not sleep with the other scouts in their cabin).  There will be 6 mattresses in each of the 6 cabins.  Resident Camp can be very hot, you may want to bring sheets and a thin blanket instead of a sleeping bag.
Inline image 2
Check-in (can be very confusing, please read) – Please arrive at the campsite between 1:00 and 1:30 pm, Wednesday.  We are NOT to be at the campsite before 1:00 this year.  You will see signs to go to other locations for check-in, that is for the Pack Leader, please go straight to Kit Carson (see the above map, when you enter Camp, stay to the right) and wait for further instructions for pack check-in.  (Which we will do together once everyone has arrived.  The address at Raven Knob is 266 Raven Knob Rd, Mount Airy, NC 27030 and the camp phone number is (336) 352-4307.
Forms – I will have all the forms. I will give the parents their and their scouts’  medical forms, scouts’ outdoor forms and YTP paperwork. You must show your paperwork at pack check in, please take it with you. You will go over your and your scout’s medical forms with the health staff at pack check in.
Swim Check Forms – I have attached the swim check form to this email.  If you would like to have a BSA Certified Life Guard (Red Cross Life Guards are BSA certified) to perform your scout’s swim check before we arrive at camp, please feel free.  They will just need to fill out the Swim Check Form.  You can then bring it with you to camp to turn in at the same time we turn in our health forms.  Ty Brown has also made arrangements for Swim Checks this weekend at his pool.  Please see previous email or you may reach Ty via text or call at 336-407-8145.    Swim check can also be completed after arriving at camp.
Meals – All meals are eaten at the dining hall.  We may have s’mores one night at our campsite as a pack. Class A Uniforms should be worn for supper unless directed otherwise by Mack Moore
Campfires–  This year there will be an  opening campfire (this requires class A uniforms) for Resident Camp. There will be a closing ceremony Saturday morning after breakfast, where awards and ribbons will be given.
Please watch the weather forecast and bring clothing accordingly.  This is what the forecast states at present.

Dining Hall Tables: Our Pack will be assigned tables in the dining hall for the duration of our stay at Resident Camp. It is every scout in our group’s responsibility to clean up the tables after each meal. This includes clearing all the dishes and trash, taking the trash to the dumpster, wiping down the tables and sweeping the floor under the table. It is expected that each scout will perform a particular role each meal.
Waiter Duty: Every den gets the chance to be a “waiter” at camp. That means that you and your scout(s) will go to the Dining Hall 15 minutes early when it is your turn and set up our pack tables. You will be responsible for getting the silverware, cups, drinks and meal specific extras for our tables. If you are late or don’t remember to go, our pack tables will not be ready when the pack comes to eat. Most Scouts like to be waiters because they get to be first in line to get their food!
I can’t wait to see you all there,
Hope

Pack 934 Updates 5/15/18

Good Tuesday  Everyone,
Here we are at the last den meeting before our scouts rank up.  I can’t believe how fast this season has gone!  We will meet in the basement as normal.  (I heard tale that the Wolves are meeting at the greenway across from Jefferson Elementary School for a Nature walk.)  We look forward to seeing everyone else tonight.


Pack 934 Updates 4/23/2018

Hi Everyone,
I hope everyone had as much fun at the Pack Hike as Peyton and I did!  It was a beautiful day, and even though I didn’t get to hike personally, I know Peyton thoroughly enjoyed it and I enjoyed the beauty of the area and the fellowship with everyone during lunch.  Thank you all for being my family away from family.

Our April Pack meeting is tomorrow evening in the Family Life Center (gym) at 7 pm.  The Bear den is in charge of setup, so Bear parents, please try to get them there by 6:45 to get the room ready.

The Tiger den will perform the flag ceremony, the Wolf den will have the candles, and the Webelos will be performing a skit for this last Pack meeting of the year.  Yes, you read that right, it is the LAST Pack meeting before the summer break.  My, how the year has flown!
⛺
For anyone who missed the Resident Camp sign-up, good news, you have ONE MORE chance.  We can still take anyone who wants to get in on the Wednesday – Saturday camp.  Please consider doing this.  The boys have a great time, but they also get a jump on their next rank.  They complete some of their rising rank electives and/or requirements while at camp.  It is always an exciting few days!  You will make so many great memories!  Even mom’s can go.  (We get a cabin or tent all to ourselves ladies!)  It’s one of my favorite events.  If money is a factor, please call either Mack, Chris, or myself, we’re happy to help.

The Bear Carnival and Invite a Friend Night will be May 1st.  All den’s should come and participate in the fun and games.  We will have Sno Cones and Popcorn in exchange for the tickets earned at each game station.  Scouts will also earn a ticket just for coming and another for bringing a friend.  (Their friend will get tickets as well.)

Pack Hike Details for Saturday 4/21/18

Hello Everyone,
I hope everyone is having a great Wednesday.  I missed seeing a lot of you last night since I was helping my son’s den with the upcoming Bear Carnival and we had so many dens meeting in alternate locations and at alternate times.  The details for the Pack Hike which is taking place Saturday, April 21st are below.

Location & Time:

§  The hike is planned to take place at Hanging Rock State Park.

§  The address is 1700 Hanging Rock Park Road, Danbury, NC 27106-7417.

§  The Visitor Center phone number is 336-593-8480.

§  You can visit the Website: https://www.ncparks.gov/hanging-rock-state-park .

§  You can click here to view a map of the park.

Timing:

§  Please arrive at 12:30 pm.

§  We will meet in front of the visitor’s center.

§  Please check in with Hope or the Leader with the clipboard, as we have the event list of participants. If your schedule changes and you are not coming or you run into travel issues and will be late, please contact Hope at 615-516-8922 as cell reception allows. We will be looking  for you if you are on the sign up list.

§  You may leave anytime after the cookout.

Plan:

§  The park rangers will have a presentation for the scouts at 1:00 pm in front of the visitor center. The presentation will last about 30 minutes.

§  The hike will begin around 1:40 pm. We will be hiking in one big group made up of smaller groups based on den.

§  We will hike the Hanging Rock Trail (1.3 miles).

§  The trail is wide and has a gravel surface for most of its length, but becomes more narrow and rocky near the top. This trail, although short, is rated “more difficult” since it climbs steeply and has some obstacles.

§  Parents: to ensure everyone’s safety, please stay with your children at all times (unless you have arranged for another able adult to accompany them). This is a “must” since the terrain can be treacherous.  We request that your child be within arms length of you.

§  Please check in with Hope (or the Leader with the clipboard) once you are off the trail. If you don’t check in, we will assume you are still on the trail and if we can not locate you within a reasonable amount of time,

we will begin combing the trail with the Ranger looking for you and your family.

§  At present, we are planning to have dinner served at the picnic tables past the Visitor’s Center, if that changes we ill let everyone know.

What to bring:

§  Please wear class B uniform (cub scout t-shirt) for this event.

§  Please bring a side dish to go with hot dogs and chili if your last name                      starts with A – G.  If your last name begins with letters H – Z, please bring                a dessert.

§  Wear sunscreen

§  Bring a light jacket or rain poncho for weather

§  Bring a reusable water bottle for the hike

Cookout

§  We are fortunate to have Mack Moore organizing the cookout. We will be having hotdogs grilled at the picnic area along with chili for the hotdogs!  We will have bottled waters to drink. (I may also bring some lemonade.)

I look forward to seeing you there,

Hope
