Pack 934 Updates 3/20/18

Good Afternoon Friends,

I hope everyone had a great time at the Kaleideum North Sleep-over.  I know my child enjoyed it.  Thank you to everyone for being so fantastic and going with the program flow.

Please do NOT forget to recharter your child if they intend to remain in scouts.  We need to know what their intentions are TONIGHT.  Please come see us at the table.  If you are in the Lions and Tigers dens, please still come to the table for a few minutes.  Maybe parents could take turns?  Or come before or after the den meeting.

You will notice several new sign-ups at the table tonight.  First will be our Pack Hike, which will take place April 21st at Hanging Rock State Park.  We will gather around 12:30 that Saturday and have a great time with the Native Games.  After which we will hike Hanging Rock, then have dinner together as a Pack after the hike.  We will provide the main course and ask for you to either bring a side or dessert.

We will also be signing up for the Spring Family Camping trip at Camp Raven Knob, which is scheduled for the weekend of May 18th-20th.  This will be a bring your tent camping trip.  It is free of charge, but we will divide up meal prep by dens, so you may be asked to bring a food item.  We have always had a great time on this trip!  It’s very relaxed.  Normally the Wolves are given an opportunity to earn their Whittling Chip during this event.  I encourage everyone to join us as this is a FUN time to really get to know one another and for the boys to unify as a pack!
⚾
Dash Baseball has invited us again, to be a part of the Cub Scout DASH Game and Sleepover taking place on Friday, June 1st.  The tickets are $16.00 per person and include Game tickets, Dash Hat, Scout Patch, on field pre-game parade with the pack, post-game camp out on the field with movie and morning breakfast.  Group recognition on the scoreboard.  For those who do not want to sleep over, tickets are $11,00 but your scout will not receive the patch either.  You can mix and match the two options as needed as well, if you are not spending the night.  You will need to bring a tent if you plan to sleep over.  (We have a couple of small tents available to borrow, if anyone needs to use them, please see me or Mack.)

That brings us to Cub Scout Resident Camp.  I can’t believe it is almost time for Resident Camp again!!  This year’s theme is “Dragons”.  Resident camp is for current Tigers – Webelos. Camp will begin Wednesday, June 13th (check-in is performed as a group in the early afternoon, so if you are taking off work for this event, you WILL need Wednesday off also.) and will end immediately following breakfast Saturday morning, June 16th.  Campsite arrangements are not finalized by the Raven Knob staff until the week before camp, I will not know until that time if we were able to get Adirondacks (cabins without doors),  If you have never been to Resident camp, you are missing out on an incredible experience!  I would urge you to come with us!  The boys follow schedules of coursework that allow them to get ahead on their new rank.  It is so worth the body fatigue to make these awesome memories with these boys, before they are grown and gone!  They will also pass the experience down to their little ones.  We have several leaders within our own pack whose pictures are on the walls of the mess hall, that were taken during  their time of working there as youths!  If you can’t tell, I am a HUGE supporter of this camp!  My son and I have gone every year so far, and hope this year is no exception.

If you made it this far, thank you so much for reading all of this info!  I know it was a lot at one time.  I appreciate every one of you and enjoy helping in this endeavor to grow our boys into great young men of character!!

Blue and Gold Details

Hello Friends,

I believe we are all set for the big event tomorrow night!  I hope everyone is ready to come and have a great night of good food and celebration!  This is a Class A Uniform event.  Your scouts should be dressed in their formal scouting uniform.
The Webelos I and II dens will begin the evening in the sanctuary at 6pm.  The Webelos I should arrive a little early in order to be ready for the flag ceremony.  Immediately following the Arrow of Light Ceremony, the Boy Scouts will take the Webelos II to a undisclosed location (on the premises).  The Webelos II parents should walk over to the Fellowship Hall where the Bridging will take place.  Webelos I and parents, you may also go to watch the bridging ceremony.  Please reserve the front rows of seats for the Webelos II parents.  Parents, please inform your scouts that the bridging is a very serious ceremony, we would love for them to see it, but they need to be quiet and respectful.
We will begin checking all the other scouts and their families in for the Blue and Gold Banquet at 6:45 PM outside the Family Life Center (gym).  We will begin serving food at 7 PM.  If you volunteered to bring a dessert, you may bring it in a little early if you like.  The dessert table will be on the far left side of the room upon entering the doors.  The cake will already be there.
Thank you so much for everyone who has and is helping to make this night possible!  Thanks to the Webelos II parents who have worked so hard to get the FLC set up and decorated.  Thank you to those who have agreed to assist with serving the meal.  Thank you Webelos I for taking time to perform the flag ceremony for your older scouts and honoring them as they move on to Boy Scouts.  Thanks most especially for those who VOLUNTEER so much of themselves to Lead and be a part of this wonderful organization of Scouting!  I’m so proud to watch these boys grow into this countries future leaders!  Happy birthday Scouting!  Congratulations to our Webelos II, soon to be Boy Scouts!
We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow,
Hope

Pack 934 Updates 2/26/2018

Good evening Friends,

We are all geared up and ready for a night to remember at our 2018 Blue and Gold Banquet this Friday, March 2nd!  If you have not returned your RSVP at the sign-up table, please be sure to do so tomorrow evening, during the Pack Meeting, as it is your last chance.  The Webelos I may opt to come watch the Arrow of Light and Bridging Ceremony.  All other dens, please just plan on being at the Blue and Gold Banquet at 7:00 pm.  We hope everyone will join us for this memorable night.  (FYI, there will be NO sign-ups during Friday night’s festivities.)

Tomorrow’s Pack Meeting will be held upstairs in the Family Life Center (big gym) at 7 pm.  The Webelos I will be in charge of set up and should arrive between 6:30 – 6:45.  Webelos II will be performing the flag ceremony.  Wolves will have candles, and the Bears will be performing a short skit.

We will continue to sign-up for the Kaleidium sleepover that will take place on March 16th, for one more week.  That means the deadline is March 6th for this event.  If you are a Webelos I and have not attended the Kaleidium sleepover, it is one of the events that is included in order to earn the Cubmaster Award.  This will be the last year for Webelos I to attend.  Please keep that in mind while making your decision whether or not to attend.

I believe that is all the information we have for now.  Thank you all so much for being such a fun group of boys and parents  with which to do scouting!

Pack 934 Updates 2/20/18

Hello again Friends,
Den meetings will be downstairs tonight starting at 7pm.  Tigers will be offsite at the Winston Salem Police Station and 911 Call Center.  Tiger parents, please refer to the email that was sent yesterday for details.  Webelos II parents, representatives of the Boy Scout troop will be in your meeting tonight to complete paperwork for the transition.  (for those of you who have been with the pack for a few years, you will recognize some faces.)

Thank you to all who participated in the Pinewood Derby.  As always it was a fun event!  For those who could not be there for the Championship and left their cars, You may get them from me at the sign up table.

It’s recharter time again.  For those who were new to scouting this year, let me explain.  The scouting year runs from March through February every year.  Technically, we are still in scouts in the summers, we just have a break.  (We still try to have at least one event a month in the summer.)  If you will be continuing in scouts for the next year, and in order for your scout to advance to the next rank, you will need to “recharter” (pay the yearly dues).  The recharter fee this year is $45.00 per scout.  Please come to the sign-up table in order to pay recharter.  If your scout is NOT a Webelos II and sold over $850 in popcorn, their recharter is free, please just give us a simple yes or no as to if they will recharter.

Blue and Gold invitations are still at the sign up table.  Please make sure to get these back to me in order to save you money and be sure we have enough food for all. The meals will be $6 per person if you return the form to me and pay in advance.  If you pay the night of the event, plates will be $9 a person.  Blue and Gold is one of the biggest nights we have in scouting, Awards are given, including those Leaders who are moving on and Pinewood Derby prizes, coolest car for each den will be announced and awarded.  We say congratulations to our Webelos II, who Bridge over to Boy Scouts right before the event.  It is also when we celebrate Scouting/s Birthday!  Please make a point to be at this wonderful banquet for our boys!

We are trying to get a slideshow put together for Blue and Gold.  Please email scout event pictures to Pack934photos@gmail.com.

Pinewood Derby Details

Good afternoon Friends,

Thank you all so much for your patience waiting on the detailed schedule for Pinewood Derby.  We finalized at last night’s Leader’s Meeting.  I will go into detail since there are two dens that have not previously experienced Pinewood Derby (PWD).
The car impound will take place this Friday, February 16th, from 6 – 8 pm, in the Family Life Center at Mt Tabor UMC.  (The big gym)  For those who are not familiar with impound, that is where the car will be checked to ensure it meets requirements to race.  The dimensions, weight, axle slots and tires are all looked over and measured to ensure they meet the guidelines. (Please click the following link to ensure you are in compliance http://www.pack934.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Pack-934-PWD-Rules.pdf).  You will be told the weight and you may step to the work “bench” to make modifications as you deem appropriate to complete the car before 8pm.  When your car is finalized it will be assigned a number and put in the holding area (not to be touched until race time.)  That is called impound.  Once the car is impounded the only people to touch the car are the Boy Scout “runners”, the staff only when they need to touch a car for race purposes, and your child when theyplace it on the track.  Every car that will be racing must be impounded by 8pm Friday.
Saturday morning, February 17th, the races will begin with the National Anthem at 7:45 am.  All Scouts and Leaders should wear class A uniforms for this event.  Following is the breakdown.  Each race begins promptly at the time shown below.  Please arrive approximately 10-15 minutes early to ensure your scout is present at the start of his race.
07:45 AM Lion Cubs and Leaders should be ready for Anthem
08:00 AM Lion Den Race
09:00 AM Tiger Den Race
10:00 AM Wolf Den Race
11:00 AM Bear Den Race
12:00 PM Webelos I Race
01:00 PM Webelos II Race
02:00 PM Championship Race (Top 3 from each den.)
03:00 PM Open Race (anyone who would like to race/ brothers, sisters, dads, friends, ect…)
One of the Boy Scouts from our very own Troop 934 (the Pack is our Cub Scouts grade 1-5.  The Troop is Boy Scouts grades 6-12.) Mr. Austin Cassidy, is coordinating food, drink, and snack sales for race day to earn money for his Eagle Project.  There will be breakfast and coffee available for purchase from 8-11 AM.  Around 11:15 it will be transitioned to lunch items being offered until approximately 1 PM, at which time there will be only snacks available.  Let’s all offer our support to this great cause by purchasing snacks and drinks in the kitchen, if you’re able.
If you have further questions, please reach out.  I know it’s a lot of information for first time scouters to absorb.
We look forward to seeing you all at impound,
Hope
