Spring Family Camping 2017 Details

Hi Fellow Campers,

We are looking forward to our Spring Family Camping Trip this weekend.  If you missed the previous email, we will be at Camp Raven Knob this year.  The address is 266 Raven Knob Road, Mt. Airy, NC 27030 .  It will take approximately one hour to reach the destination.  Some of this information was covered in the last email, but I am including so you can have all the info in one place.

We will be pitching our tents in the Johnson Training Shelter area at the bottom the valley.  (Please see the attached map.  Johnson Training Shelter is at the very end of the road on the left side looking at the map.)

The plan for meals is:
Friday- bring your own dinner (or eat before you come)
Saturday – Breakfast: Breakfast Burrito Bar (eggs, cheese, sausage, ect,,,)
                     Lunch:      Sandwiches and fruit
Dinner:     “Pig Pickin” (chicken for those who can’t eat pork only)
                                     baked beans, and slaw
Dessert:    Dutch Oven treats (Bring your favorite recipe!)
Sunday –  Breakfast:  Muffins and Fruit

The set up and serving of each meal will be handled by the dens and their parents  as follows:
     Bears – Saturday breakfast
     Wolves – Saturday lunch
     Webelos – Saturday dinner
     Tigers – Sunday breakfast

If you can not eat pork, could you please send me a quick text or email so we’ll know how many chickens we need.  Once again you may bring a cooler for your family.  Please be mindful that boys often want what they see you with.  Also, if you are bringing a cooler, please bring extra ice so we can keep the camp food cold.

We will be loading supplies on the trailer Friday at 2:00 pm.  If you can help, please meet us there.  We are in need of several portable tables.  If you have one you can bring, please do so.

Cup Mugs: In an effort to reduce waste of disposable coffee cups, we would like to ask that you bring your own camp mug and/or refillable water bottle. This is a great time to invest in an insulated metal mug- they are great for camping. Please write your name on your mugs unless you don’t mind drinking someone else’s coffee.

Whittling Chip – Rising Third Graders and up –  Our rising bear scouts are eligible to work on their whittling chip on the Spring Family camping trip. The Whittling Chip includes training for how to safely handle a small pocket knife. The rising bear or current wolf den leaders will handle this session for the boys and their parents. Older scouts that are new to the pack or missed this session earlier, can attend as well. Our pack takes the safe use of knives very seriously, we have posted rules and information for our parents on the website to ensure that we keep everyone safe. Please read this information and be aware of our parent’s responsibilities concerning the boys handling knives. Some families make getting a pocket knife a part of this event for the boys.
Dutch Oven Contest: We will have a Dutch Oven Contest on Saturday. We have dutch ovens that will be available.  If you own a dutch oven, please bring it along with a chimney and charcoal.
Saturday Night Campfire: Saturday night, after dinner, we have a campfire. We usually sing songs, the kids do skits, stories are told, and we will retire a flag. Since we will be roasting marshmallows, if you have a marshmallow stick, please bring it or bring a non-painted wire coat hanger.
Class A uniform: Scouts will need to bring their Class A uniform to wear for dinner Saturday evening and for the campfire/flag retirement ceremony that evening. This is the only time the Class A will be required to be worn over the weekend.  We do like for the scouts and those who have class B uniforms (any scout t-shirt) to wear them when not in Class A.

Suggested items to bring:

§  Chairs
§  Tent
§  Sleeping bags
§  Ear plugs
§  Pillows
§  Flashlights
§  Lantern- helpful if you have extras to bring to put around campsite
§  Toiletries
§  Shower Shoes
§  Towels
§  Sunscreen
§  Bug spray
§   Hat
§  Cup for hot drinks and water
§  Comfortable shoes and clothes

You should also bring rain gear, as it is in the forecast for the weekend!
We don’t have a strict schedule for the weekend.  There will be a hike.  You can bring fishing poles if you would like to fish in the lake.  Breakfast should be around 8 am and Lights Out at 10 pm.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call, text, or email me.
I look forward to seeing you there,
Hope

Pack Hike Cancelled 4/22/2017

Thank you,
Hope

Incorrect Pack Hike Time Given

My apologies to all,

I told you all we would meet at 9:30 am and have lunch after our hike.  The hike is, in fact, scheduled for afternoon.  We will meet at 1:15 pm in front of the Visitor Center, and have dinner after the short program and hike.  If the time changes your plans, please text or email me. (If you can now join due to completing sports, work, ect…, we would love to have you!) Also, please keep a close watch on your email.  As of right now, they are predicting rain Saturday.  We will cancel if it looks like rain is imminent.  Hanging Rock is very slippery and dangerous when wet. The safety of our pack is of utmost importance.
Thank you all for your understanding,
Hope

Pack 934 Updates 4/18/17, Hike Details, Exciting News!

Hello Everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter!  We have some wonderful news to share for the upcoming Scout year, so please read to the end of this email.  We do have our normal den meeting tonight at 7pm.  We will all be downstairs.
The Leader’s would like to request the boys wear as much of their Class A uniforms (the formal uniform) as they have for their den and pack meetings please.  They are not to carry the flag or participate in any of the formal ceremonies (for Webelos this means, they can not be the “Denner” or serve in various rolls) if they are not in full uniform.  If anyone does not have a uniform or specific parts of the uniform and needs help with this, please see either Mack or myself.  You may call either of us if you are not comfortable grabbing us at a meeting.  There are funds set aside to help families.  So, unless you have been told to do otherwise for a messy activity, please have your scout wear his Class A Uniform.
One last item of business pertaining to Den and Pack Meetings.  If you can not stay with your scout during the meetings for whatever reason, please kindly ask another parent to watch after your child.  We realize life is hectic and there are many things going on at the same time as scouts, so that is all we ask.  Please make arrangements with another parent.
Webelos I  – Boy Scout Room
                      Bears – Youth Commons
Wolves – 121 (Cub Scout Room)
                      Tigers –  118
Our pack hike is coming up fast!  This weekend in fact!  I am still waiting on one important piece of information, so please keep watching your email for hike detail updates.  As of right now we are planning to meet in front of the Hanging Rock Visitors Center at 9:30am Saturday morning.  The address is 1790 Hanging Rock Park Rd. Danbury NC  27016.  Please check in with me upon your arrival.  Also check in with me when you come back down from the trail.  We have a “No Scout Left Behind” policy!  We will have a brief program before we hike the trail as a group.  We will also have lunch once we come back from the hike.  Mr. Ty Brown has graciously agreed to stay behind and grill hamburgers and hot dogs.  We need families with last names ending in A-L to bring a side item for lunch and families with names ending in M-Z to bring a dessert to share with the pack please.  We have 80+ people attending the hike!!
女Now, for the other exciting news….We will be adding a Lion Den beginning in the fall!!  That means we will be recruiting Kindergarten and First grade, along with growing our rising Second graders and above!!!  If you have a child who will be in Kindergarten or first grade and you know you want them involved next year, please let us know now, so we can start planning.  (No paperwork or fees until next fall)  We would like to get a jumpstart on recruiting for next season.  The upcoming Bear Carnival will be a great night to plant that seed.

We are asking everyone to invite a friend to the Bear Carnival, which will be Tuesday, May 2nd at 7:00 pm. That would normally be a den meeting night, but we will be in the Family Life Center (the big gym) that night.  The Bear’s have organized many games for the night.  We will play games and at the end be able to get a treat with the tickets earned from participating in the games.
At the sign- up table tonight we have:

Pack 934 Updates 3/28/2017

Good morning parents of Pack 934,

I hope everyone is having a wonderful week.  I hear the Webelos I had a great hike over the weekend and the wolves had a great hike last Tuesday!

I want to remind everyone that we will be hosting Professor G-Force of Mad Science this evening.  His presentation should be a great time for all!  Please have your scout(s) wear his Class A Uniform this evening.  (Complete uniform – all that you have…)  We will begin promptly at 7 pm so that we allow The Professor plenty of time!  We will meet in the Family Life Center (big gym upstairs).  Bear families (3rd grade) please arrive as close to 6:30 as you can to set up for our Pack Meeting tonight.
 
Tonight is the deadline for re-charter.   For those of you who are new to scouting, or those who are unfamiliar with the terms, that means that it is time to sign-up for the upcoming year.  The scouting year goes from April-March every year.  The recharter fee this year will be $36.00.  (In years past it has been $60, so this is a great thing!)  The expense will cover April 2017-March 2018.  Please see me at the sign-up table and either get rechartered or at least let me know of your intentions.  (If you can not come by the table, please, email or text me your intentions for the upcoming scout year.)  We need to have spoken with every family tonight.  Thanks in advance for your help with making this happen quickly and I look forward to continuing scouts with all of you!
⛺
We continue taking reservations for this year’s Resident Camp, “Raven Knob Luau”.  The dates are Wed., June 14th – Sat. the 17th.  Our pack is subsidizing the cost of this event!  Raven Knob cost is $135 per scout and $75.00 per adult, but your cost is only $70.00 per scout and $45.00 per adult.  This cost reduction is all due to the pack’s awesome popcorn sales!  Way to go boys!  Camp Raven Knob is always a great time for the boys!  They also get a head start on the rank requirements for the upcoming year.  The deposit of $50 per scout and $10 per adult must be paid by April 19th with the remaining balance due by May 17th.   We would love to see all of our boys attend this wonderful camp and build confidence by conquering and doing things they never thought possible.  The campfire stories, smores, hikes, climbing wall, shooting range, eating in the mess hall and drinking “bug juice” together.  It all really bonds the boys, no matter their age.   Please don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity!
