Pack 934 Updates 3/21/2017

Hello Friends,

Wow, I feel like it’s been forever since I saw you last. Our family has had such a hard time with sickness this month.  I hope that none of our other families are struggling with the same.

We have two dens that will not be meeting at Mt. Tabor tonight.  The Wolf den will meet at 6:45 tonight, March 21st at Muddy Creek Greenway.  If you are a Wolf (2nd grade) parent and did not get the detailed email from Paul Young, please let me know and I can forward it to you.  (If it begins to rain prior to 6 pm the den will meet at Mt. Tabor UMC as normal.  You will receive an email from Mr. Young)

Webelos I will meet Saturday at 10 am at Tanglewood Park instead of tonight.  If you are a Webelos I parent (4th grade) and did not get the detailed email from Shane Harterink, please let me know so I can forward it to you.

Tigers will meet in their den as normal tonight and Bears will meet in the Fellowship Hall (dining area) as normal.

Friends, it is already time for recharter again.  For those of you who are new to scouting, or those who are unfamiliar with the terms, that means that it is time to sign-up for the upcoming year.  The scouting year goes from April-March every year.  The recharter fee this year will be $36.00.  (In years past it has been $60, so this is a great thing!)  The expense will cover April 2017-March 2018.  Please see me at the sign-up table and either get rechartered or let me know of your intentions.  (If you can not come by the table, please at least email me your intentions for the upcoming scout year.)  The deadline is March 28th.  We need to have spoken with every family by that deadline.  Thanks in advance for your help with making this happen quickly and I look forward to continuing scouts with all of you!

Speaking of March 28th, Professor Johnny G-Force from Mad Science will be showing us some really cool stuff at our March 28th Pack meeting.  You don’t want to miss the excitement!  We will meet in the Family Life Center for this fun filled night. Bears have set-up for this month.  Bear families, please try to arrive 30 minutes early to arrange chairs.  Webelos will perform the flag ceremony.
🌄
We are still signing up for our Pack Hike at Hanging Rock State Park for April 22nd.  We will have a cookout at the park after our hike.
⛺
We are still taking reservations for this year’s Resident Camp, “Raven Knob Luau”.  The dates are Wed., June 14th – Sat. the 17th.  Our pack is subsidizing the cost of this event!  Raven Knob cost is $135 per scout and $75.00 per adult, but your cost is only $70.00 per scout and $45.00 per adult.  This cost reduction is all due to the pack’s awesome popcorn sales!  Way to go boys!  Camp Raven Knob is always a great time for the boys!  They also get a head start on the rank requirements for the upcoming year.  The deposit of $50 per scout and $10 per adult must be paid by April 19th with the remaining balance due by May 17th.   We would love to see all of our boys attend this wonderful camp and build confidence by conquering and doing things they never thought possible.  The campfire stories, smores, hikes, climbing wall, shooting range, eating in the mess hall and drinking “bug juice” together.  It all really bonds the boys, no matter their age.   Please don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity!

Pack 934 Updates 3/7/17

Hello again Friends,

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.  I’d like to thank everyone who came to the Blue and Gold Banquet Saturday night. We had a great time! Congratulations to those scouts who won coolest car from Pinewood Derby!  I’m so glad we were able to keep that a secret and surprise some scouts!

As you know, with Blue and Gold, we also lose some leaders to the Boy Scout Troop.  I would like to make sure everyone knows that Mack Moore has now stepped up to take the Cubmaster position.  We are so grateful to Mack for what he has done and continues to do for Pack 934!  I would also like to make everyone aware of the open positions that will now need to be filled for the upcoming year.  We are currently looking for volunteers for our Popcorn Kernel next year. Stacy Stevens has said she is willing to assist the new Kernel in any way they need.  If you would like more information or to volunteer, please see me or Mack Moore.  If you would like to volunteer in any way, please see us, we can always use help.

Our next big event is Friday evening.  I will be sending out details for the SciWorks sleepover in a couple of days.  It promises to be great fun as always!  I know this is a favorite for the boys!  If you have not filled out the SciWorks health form, please get one from the sign up table tonight and get it turned in before you leave.  (If you filled out a form last year, you do not need a new one.)

Blue and Gold Banquet Details

Hello Friends,

I hope your week has been spectacular.  I believe Tuesday’s Pack Meeting and Ceremonies were great.  Congratulations to all of our award recipients!  There were so many, and we are so proud of all of our boys!

As you all know, our annual Blue and Gold Banquet is this Saturday starting at 6:00 pm in the Family Life Center (big gym) at Mt. Tabor UMC.  We will have the check-in separated into two lines according to last name.  If you have not paid and/or decide last minute to come, please get in whichever line I’m checking in, as I will have the provisions to take payments.  If it’s family members who didn’t sign up, we are happy to have them as well!  I will try to have a sign for payments, so everyone knows which line.  $9.00 a plate at the door.  Once you have checked in, you may go through the serving line immediately.  Please have your child wear their Class A uniform.

We have spoken with Mrs. Sheri Nebinger (the caterer) and confirmed that there is NO NUT cross-contamination in the food for those who are allergic.  Also, if you have a gluten free diet, please request the gluten free pasta while being served.  Please only request this if you have let us know that you need it.  (As there will be a minimal number of gluten free lasagna plates.)  If you did not mention it and need it, please let me know as quickly as possible.

Webelos II den (whoops, new Raven Scouts) parents and scouts are in charge of set-up for this event.  Liza Wearn has worked hard to organize everything.  We need you all to come Friday night at 6:00 pm to help get the Family Life Center banquet ready.  (This was mentioned to parents who were in the last den meeting)  Setting up the tables, chairs, and stage will be priority Friday evening.  Thank you in advance for helping with this so we can get it done as quickly as possible.

Webelos I parents servers, please arrive at 5:30 Saturday evening to help Sheri Nebinger with the food and drinks.  We will also need assistance at the ice cream bar.

Thank you all so much for always being so willing to jump in and help.  We truly have a great pack of boys and parents and could not get all these events accomplished without you all!
Appreciatively,
Hope

Pack 934 Updates 2/28/17

Hello Once Again Friends,

It seems unbelievable that the time has already come for the Webelos II to bridge over to Boy Scouts and begin a new journey in their life.  We have been working diligently to ensure everything is in order and ready for our pack meeting tonight.  (Working so hard, I almost neglected to send out the weekly updates.)

We will have our pack meeting tonight, but it will be a little more involved than usual.  First we will have our den awards and Bobcat Ceremony in the sanctuary beginning at 7:00 pm.  We will then have the Arrow of Light Ceremony for the Webelos II that earned this prestigious award.  (Did you realize the Arrow of Light is one of the only awards that follows the boys through Boy Scouts?)

Once the Arrow of Light Ceremony is over, we invite the whole pack to come to the Fellowship Hall to watch the Bridging Ceremony.  If you have never seen the Boy Scouts conduct the bridging ceremony, you are in for a treat.  We will dismiss the Webelos II families proceed to the Fellowship Hall first, so that they may get seating in the front to watch their boys.  Once the bridging is complete, there will be cake to celebrate!  (If you can not have anything made in a factory that may have nut cross-contamination, please request cupcakes, that have no contamination.)

Please remember to come by the sign-up table.  This is the last day to pay $6.00 a plate for our Blue and Gold Banquet, which is this Saturday in the Family Life Center at 6:00 pm.  (Big gym)  The price at the door will be $9.00 a plate, so please make every attempt to pay in advance.  Blue and Gold is the BIG celebration of the year.  It’s our pack’s birthday! The Pinewood Derby coolest car for each den will be announced and awards given.  We also celebrate our new Boy Scouts as well as Outgoing and Incoming Leaders.  Please don’t miss this important banquet!

This is also the last week to sign up for the SciWorks Sleepover.  If you did not attend last year, you will need to fill out a special health form for your child.  I have them available at the sign up table now.
⛺

Pack 934 Updates 2/20/17

Dear Friends,
We would like to take a moment to say “thank you” to all the parents and scouts that participated in the Pinewood Derby this year!  Because of you all, the derby was a wonderful time of fun and fellowship for all who were there!  The boys were all kind and respectful of each other!  There were some really cool cars and a LOT of really fast cars!
🏎
Speaking of cool cars….the results are in on who won coolest car in each den.  The big reveal will be at our annual Blue and Gold Banquet on Saturday, March 4th at 6:00 pm!  Please don’t miss this night of food, fun, and celebration, saying goodbye to our scouts and leaders who are going on to Boy Scouts and bringing in the new Leaders.  We also celebrate Pack 934’s birthday at Blue and Gold every year.  It’s the 87th birthday of our Pack, and still going strong!  We will have an ice cream bar to celebrate!
🍧
For those who are not aware, usually we have our Webelos II Arrow of Light and Bridging Ceremony on the same night as Blue and Gold.  This year we are doing things a little differently.  We will have our Webelos II ceremonies on Tuesday, February 28th during our pack meeting.  We will give out all other den awards first, then have a Bobcat Badge Ceremony.  We will then go straight into the Webelos II Arrow of Light Ceremony.  (This will all take place in the Mt Tabor UMC sanctuary.)  The Webelos II parents will be dismissed to go to the Fellowship Hall, all other scout dens and parents may follow (We ask that the Webelos II parents get to sit in the front.) The Boy Scouts will then bring in the Webelos II for the bridging ceremony.  (The younger boys may really think it’s cool to watch, so I encourage you all to stay and support our fellow cubs bridge up to Boy Scouts!)
🎖
SciWorks sleepover is March 10th.  If you signed up, and did not go last year, please see me to get a SciWorks health form.  I have them at the sign-up table.
I have included all the events for the rest of the year for those parents who need to plan ahead.  I know a lot of people need to request off work for events.

Pinewood Derby 2017 Details

Hi All!
Pinewood Derby is already upon us!  I hope everyone is putting their last touches on those cars getting them ready to race!
Webelos I parents.  We need your help!  We will be setting up for weigh-in and the derby beginning at 4pm Friday.  Please come as soon as you can to assist.  Your leader’s are counting on parent (and scout) volunteer help to make this a great and memorable event!
Weigh-In will be this Friday, February 17th from 5-7pm in the Fellowship Hall at Mt Tabor UMC.  Please bring your car ready to be inspected, measured, weighed, and it will be assigned a number.  (We will have a small repair station Friday evening for those last minute fixes.) Please make sure you have reviewed our pack Pinewood Derby rules by clicking this link.  We certainly don’t want any scout’s car disqualified and any boy heart broken over not paying attention to the rules.
The schedule for Saturday is as follows:
8:00 a.m. – Tiger Den
8:30 a.m. – Wolf Den
9:30 a.m. – Bear Den
10:30 a.m. – Webelo I Den
11:15 a.m.. – Webelo II Den
12:30 p.m. – Top Racers from all Dens return for the run offs
1:30 p.m. – Leader/Parent/Sibling unlimited race

There will also be snacks for sale to help the Venture Crew earn money for their activities during the races Saturday.  Please stop by the serving line and help support another great BSA program!
If you have additional questions, or I failed to mention anything, please contact me via email, text, or call.  Pinewood Derby is an exciting and rewarding time for our boys!  It is so great  to see the boys all cheering for one another.
I look forward to seeing you all Friday,
Hope

Scouting for Food Final Weight Calculations 2017

Dear Pack 934,
I have to say you all are the most generous people!  I would like to give a HUGE thank you to Lisa Bransom for staying and helping me tally ounces of food!  The final total ounces of food collected is 3,926.84 oz.  Yes, you read that correctly.  That converts to 245 lbs. and 6.84 oz. of donated food items.

Scouting for Food Collection in Lower Parking Lot 11-12.

Dear Friends,
The church requested we change our plans for this Saturday just a little, as they  have a sudden need for the building and lot Saturday. I will be in the lower parking lot of Mt Tabor UMC from 11-12 tomorrow for you to hand off your collected food donations and hand each scout that collected, their patch for participating in this event. I will leave Mt. Tabor UMC’s parking lot no later than 12:15 to ensure they have all the space they need. If you can not get the donations to me at that time, please let me know so we can make arrangements.
Thank you all for your dedication and flexibility,
Hope
