  • For those who are not familiar with impound, this process includes the car being checked to ensure it meets requirements to race.
  • The dimensions, weight, axle slots and tires are all looked over and measured to ensure they meet the guidelines.

  • When your car is finalized it will be assigned a number and placed in the holding area.   It will be impounded and cannot be touched again until race time.  Once the car is impounded the only people to touch the car are the Boy Scout “runners”, the staff only when they need to touch a car for race purposes and your child when they place it on the track on Saturday.

Pinewood Derby is fast approaching and will take place! If there is anyone who has not received their car kit, please contact Hope Pyrtle at 615.516.8922.
Weigh-in is on Friday, Feb 14th from 6 – 8 PM in the Family Life Center (big Gym). If your scout will be racing, you don’t sign up, but you MUST bring their car for weigh-in during that time frame. (You may just drop in with the car whenever is convenient for you within the 2 hour period.) The cars will be impounded, so that no one touches them overnight and we will race Sat, Feb. 15th. I will send the racing times for each den in the 2/9 weekly email. For those who have never participated in Pinewood Derby, we race others in the same den, the top 3 racers win for their den. (They will receive a pin for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place.) We end with a race for the Pack winners by racing the top 3 in every den. (So if your scout is in the top 3, they will return to race in the Finals.) Every den will also have a Coolest Car winner (voted on by each scout in their den). The trophies for the Pack winners and the Coolest Car Plaques will be awarded during our Annual Blue and Gold Banquet. Please use this link for the rules. http://www.pack934.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Pack-934-PWD-Rules.pdf If anyone needs tools to borrow or has derby related questions, please contact Hope Pyrtle.

Pinewood Derby Details (Mandatory Car Impound on 2/14 & Race on 2/15)

Hello Pack 934 Families,

Good evening!  Please see below for the Pinewood Derby Details

Friday, 2/14 at 6pm
  • The car impound will take place next Friday, February 14th, from 6 – 8 pm, in the Family Life Center at Mt Tabor UMC (the big gym).  For those who are not familiar with impound, this process includes the car being checked to ensure it meets requirements to race.
  • The dimensions, weight, axle slots and tires are all looked over and measured to ensure they meet the guidelines. Please click the following link to ensure you are in compliance
  • http://www.pack934.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Pack-934-PWD-Rules.pdf
  • You will be told the weight and you may step to the work “bench” to make modifications as you deem appropriate to complete the car before 8pm.  When your car is finalized it will be assigned a number and put in the holding area.   It cannot be touched again until race time. (impound).  Once the car is impounded the only people to touch the car are the Boy Scout “runners”, the staff only when they need to touch a car for race purposes and your child when they place it on the track.  Every car that will be racing must be impounded by 8pm Friday.
Saturday, 2/15 at 7:30am
  • The races will begin with the National Anthem at 7:45 am.  All Scouts and Leaders should wear class A uniforms for this event.  Each race begins promptly at the time shown below.  Please arrive approximately 10-15 minutes early to ensure your scout is present at the start of his race.
  • Boy and girl dens will be combined by rank for each race.
    • 07:45 AM Lion Cubs and Leaders should be ready for Anthem
    • 08:00 AM Lion Den Race
    • 08:30 AM Tiger Den Race
    • 09:30 AM Wolf Den Race
    • 10:15 AM Bear Den Race
    • 11:15 AM Webelos I Race
    • 12:00 PM Webelos II Race
    • 01:00 PM Championship Race (Top 3 from each den.)
    • Fun Race, as soon as Pack Race completes
  • One of the Boy Scouts from our very own Troop 934 is coordinating food, drink, and snack sales for race day to earn money for his Eagle Project.  There will be breakfast and coffee available for purchase from 8-11 AM.  Around 11:15 it will be transitioned to lunch items being offered until approximately 1 PM, at which time there will be only snacks available.  Let’s all offer our support to this great cause by purchasing snacks and drinks in the kitchen, if you’re able. Please bring cash!

Please let me know if you have any questions!
